SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure scales and protects public safety applications

WESTBOROUGH, M.A - August 25, 2015 - SimpliVity, a leader in hyperconverged infrastructure revolutionizing enterprise IT, today announced that the Town of Vail, Colorado is leveraging SimpliVity to transform the reliability, performance and economics of its IT infrastructure. The SimpliVity solution enables high availability and disaster recovery for a variety of public safety applications, including 911 dispatch and video surveillance systems, and for other business-critical systems such as Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases.

The Town of Vail sought a new IT infrastructure as it prepared to host the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, which took place earlier this year.

"Public safety is our top priority," said Ron Braden, IT Director for the Town of Vail. "The SimpliVity solution ensures our emergency management systems and other essential applications are always available. The solution enables continuous IT uptime during major events like the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, which drew over 200,000 spectators."

By replacing its legacy IT systems with the SimpliVity solution, the Town of Vail:

  • Ensured high performance and resiliency for mission-critical applications
  • Achieved ~1600 SQL transactions per second along with other mixed workloads
  • Instituted efficient disaster recovery procedures via a remote data center
  • Eliminated IT expense and complexity, migrated 72 VMs with three compact SimpliVity
  • OmniCube systems at the primary site and a fourth OmniCube at the disaster recovery site
  • Streamlined operations with global unified management

Ron Braden will be discussing the Town of Vail's deployment on August 31 at VMworld San Francisco. Braden will highlight how SimpliVity revolutionized the role of IT at the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, making it one of the most technologically advanced sporting event to date. More information on the discussion can be found on the VMworld events page. And for those of you who cannot make it to VMworld, you can watch the video version by getting your virtual booth pass.

SimpliVity is the only hyperconverged infrastructure provider to combine all the functionality of an entire data center stack-including compute, storage, network switching, replication, and backup-onto industry-standard x86 hardware. By consolidating and virtualizing its IT infrastructure, the Town of Vail was able to significantly increase performance and scalability, while dramatically reducing ongoing operations expenses. The solution's built-in data protection functionality minimizes I/O and network traffic, helping the town accelerate data backup and disaster recovery functions.

"Disjointed legacy data center architectures aren't well suited for today's dynamic IT environments," said Doron Kempel, CEO of SimpliVity. "SimpliVity's hyperconverged infrastructure solution helps the Town of Vail streamline operations and boost IT agility, while safeguarding critical applications and data. We're proud to have helped the town efficiently and reliably scale capacity to support high-traffic events like the World Ski Championships"
